Save the Children
Agent: Mary
· Q: I am thinking about sponsoring a child but I want to know more about how the money works and the programs offered.
A: We have two types of sponsorships: individual and lifeline. Lifeline is an ambassador child who represents the community. In individual sponsorship you have one sponsored child and you can correspond; with a lifeline sponsorship, you cannot correspond. Your money goes to the programs, not directly to the children. Both sponsorships are the same price.
·Q: So what does the money do for the child?
A: The child is participating in STC programs and the money goes to the programs. They do have to actively participate. It depends on the area. In Africa they have the HIV/AIDS, the House program, nutrition. In the United States, they are more after school programs; they have the Early Childhood Education. It differs in different areas.
·Q: So my one sponsored child is not specifically getting medical checkups, food rations or clothing? They may be receiving some of those things?
A: They do receive medical attention, and they do receive vitamin supplements. That is all included in the program.
·Q: Oh, so every sponsored child receives medical checkups?
A: Yeah.
·Q: Is that on a regular basis?
A: It is different in different areas. They have a bus that comes to give vitamin supplements. I don't know how often it comes.
·Q: Do you have doctors in the communities employed by you?
A: I don't know if they have doctors, but I know they have aides that they train to go to the houses and help. But I know if someone is really sick they have to be taken to a hospital.
· Q: Is the program different by age or just by country?
A: It is different by both, because if they are younger, they participate in the Early Education Program.
·Q: Do you offer all the programs in all the areas?
A: Yes.
·Q: I'm trying to envision how it works for the sponsored child, like how they get the benefits and get their picture taken.
A: That is all done with the field workers. They go out into the community and find the children who can be a part of the program.
·Q: Do they deliver clothing and food?
A: Sometimes they get a bulk in the office and they will give it out to the children in the program. Their main focus is on the programs and educating the children. Sometimes they do give out clothing or medical treatment bus, but it is different in the different areas. For example, in Bangladesh 2,300 parents registered in parenting programs. More similar statistics were provided to illustrate the different programs in different countries.
· Q: Are you religiously affiliated?
A: No
